Risør Frikirke gets a nice visit in the middle of the week in mid-October! Music critic Gunnar Ingebrigtsen writes: “What immediately strikes me is their presence and the joy of playing together on stage. (…) They deliver a brilliant concert, filled with joy of playing, with a strong presence and beautiful lyrics, arrangements and not least solid vocals.” In the spring of 2021, Karin Okkenhaug contacted drummer Hermund Nygård and asked him if he played anything other than drums. He absolutely did – and together they have established a musical friendship, which has led to almost 100 concerts played in the last couple of years. Karin and Hermund have each worked with names such as Bjørn Eidsvåg, The Real Thing, Sharp 9, deLillos, Jarle Bernhoft and Anita Skorgan. They have also played a concert with Silje Nergaard and Hallgrim Bratberg, a concept that saw the light of day at the Winter Jazz Festival in March this year. With a combined 40 years in the industry, they bring experience and inspiration from various genres such as pop, folk, jazz and improv, and the audience gets to experience a close and playful duo. The duo brings a small load of instruments, and together they create a soundscape that feels much larger than, and just as small as, the number of people on stage would suggest. The duo writes in Norwegian, with lyrics about life and relationships. Karin Okkenhaug: vocals, keyboards, violin, percussion, etc. Hermund Nygård: guitars, bass, drums, percussion, piano, choir, etc.
