Visual artist Erika Stöckel talks to Karl Olav Segrov Mortensen, curator of programs at Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, based on Stenkvinnen, Støckel's exhibition at Galleri Kunstparken, which runs until June 1. Erika Stöckel is an Oslo-based artist with a Sami background from Kiruna. Born and raised in the mining town of Kiruna, iron ore has been a part of her everyday life, and the mine is the entire family's workplace. On the one hand, it provides security, but at the same time it creates a large hole that is slowly eating up the city. Growing up in Kiruna is learning to hate and love the stone.
Stöckel works mainly with ceramics, and creates sculptural works within an abstract visual world. Stöckel's exhibition project The Stone Woman thematizes the interaction between nature, the body and power, based on her experiences from her own upbringing. Erika Stöckel (1989) is Risør Municipality's art scholarship holder for 2024-25.
