Ragnhild Sigurdsøn gives a lecture about the Risør prisoners and their fate. Those who survived, and those who did not.
May 8th marks 80 years since the liberation of Norway after World War II. The German occupation also affected Risør in many ways. Many men in the district were affiliated with the so-called Lauvdal Group, a resistance group that encompassed large parts of Southern Norway.
The work was exposed by the occupying forces, those involved were arrested, and many were sent to German concentration camps. A total of 11 men from Risør ended up as so-called Nacht und Nebel prisoners in the Natzweiler-Struthof camp outside Strasbourg.
The conditions were indescribable, and five of the 11 prisoners from Risør never returned home.
