Saturday is the day again for the annual summer market at Torvet in Risør, and we have many exciting vendors registered. People come from far and wide to sell their home-made and recycled goods. We at Risør By AS have been a little stricter this year that the goods must be home-made or recycled, which we believe will make for an even more exciting market.

The June market will be special this year, as we will be visited by the Sørumsand school band who will be playing horn music. They will be seated on the sidewalk outside the Risør Wooden Boat Festival offices at Torvet 1. I think this will create a fantastic atmosphere when the square is filled with stalls and tables, even though the meteorologists are threatening rain in the morning.

The market will offer a wide range of goods, and there will be some knitwear, but everything is self-produced, so nothing is the same. I don't think it matters if there are several people offering the same thing. Competition between the vendors is healthy, and what they sell doesn't compete with what the stores offer. This provides an extra offer for those who make the Saturday trip to the city.

The June market is the third market of the year at Torvet. The first Saturday after the school holidays have started, the town is full of people. Many of the permanent residents have not taken their vacation yet, while many cottagers have moved in for the summer. In addition, there are a good number of tourists in the town, and some visitors come specifically to go to the market. The markets are a great attraction for the town, and those who are here stay longer when things are happening at Torvet.

We would like more local participants at the markets that are held at Torvet several times a year. I know there are many people in Risør who collect different things and maybe have something they want to sell. They are very welcome to join the market. Just send me an email and I will sign them up. The next market will be in August.
