We are planning a new coastal bathing route in Risør: Join the Adventure!

We are proud to announce that we are taking the initiative to establish a new coastal bathing route in Risør. A group of coastal culture enthusiasts are now working to bring home an old Risør boat with the aim of offering guided coastal culture tours and a separate bathing route. This has been a long-awaited offer for many years, and we are happy to be able to take the first steps towards realization.

The idea has not yet found its final form, but the project has progressed so far that Risør Municipality has submitted an application to Agder County Municipality for 950,000 kroner in support. The funds will be used to purchase MB Langøy, a boat originally built by Kristensen & Co in Risør in 1951. The boat, which has been privately owned since 1984, has recently been approved for passenger traffic and can take up to 48 passengers.

The plan is to use the boat for regular coastal cultural routes, events, charters and as a bathing boat to the archipelago park in July. This will connect the maritime Risør in a unique way, and give visitors without a boat access to the archipelago and coastal cultural areas around Risør.

The municipality does not intend to own the boat itself, but will act as a facilitator. The first phase of the project involves purchasing the boat and organizing an operating company. The idea is that the boat will be owned and operated by an association, either under the Coastal Association Øster Risøer or as a separate voluntary association. The skipper and any sailor will be paid for their work, while other maintenance and preservation of the boat will be voluntary work.

The project is ambitious and requires more support and help. We have spoken to several stakeholders who have been involved, including an advisor at the Risør County Council's vessel safety office, who confirms that the boat is in very good condition and suitable for the purpose. John Andersen, deputy leader of the Øster Risøer Coastal Association, expresses hope that the coastal association can take an active role in the project going forward.

This initiative is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen Risør's tourism efforts and make the archipelago accessible to more people. The boat can also be rented out to private events and tourism operators, which will further enrich the offer in Risør.

We encourage everyone interested to join us on this exciting journey. Your support can be crucial to the success of the project. Contact us for more information on how you can contribute.

Kind regards,
